Canadian Museum of Civilization

As we will not be around much longer we made a point of going to at least one museum in town. Thursday, free Thursday, we checked out the Canadian Museum of Civilization. The large model of an old ship being built was pretty neat but hard to photograph. So I took a picture of this log canoe.

Bagels

Move over Gunn's, these are Owen's Bagels!

I pressed holes into small balls of dough. Which I then dropped into boiling water.

Here they expand quickly. Then they are baked at a very hot temperature for a short while.

After experimenting with different boiling and baking times, I ended up with these:

Though they all tasted the same, some just had a much better texture. I found that 2 minutes of boiling (left) was best, boiling much longer made them shrink when removed from the boiling water (right).

Winterlude

Came back to Ottawa earlier this week. Just in time to catch the end of Winterlude, Ottawa's winter festival. We missed the Barra MacNeils last night.

So I am back using the bread machine too. Here is a loaf picture. This test was inspired by Colette. I had to spread the egg glaze with a spoon so it was not the most even distribution. But it sure was good!

Up next: updated house plant photos - who survived, who didn't?

Ficus, aloe, and red thing

Carolyn still feels I need more houseplants posted here. Have your plants frozen to death on the window sill yet?

Carolyn, you need a hobby.

Heh heh heh

This is Carolyn. She thinks I post stupid pictures. So this is a break from my usual house plants and bread. Just for Carolyn.

I admit I have had a low point, but trust me, posts will get better very soon.

What is this (1)?

Please leave your guesses in the comments.

I will leave the answer in the comments either when it is correctly guessed, or I realize no one actually comes here.
